Meg Ryan
Meg Ryan is a blonde-haired blue-eyed
lady with a vivacious personality. Her birth name is Margaret Mary Emily Hyra
to Susan (Duggan) and was who was an English teacher, and also a one-time
actor. Harry Hyra was a math teacher. Her heritage includes Ruthenian, Polish
and Irish, as well as German. ("Hyra") is her Ruthenian surname and
"Ryan" is her maternal grandmother's maiden name. Meg graduated in
June 1979 from Bethel highschool, Bethel. Meg moved to New York and majored as
a journalist at New York University. In order to earn money while studying for
her degree, Meg went into acting under the name Meg Ryan. Her screen debut came
in 1981 with a short appearance as Candice Bergen’s daughter in George Cukor's
last film Rich and Famous (1981). She was auditioned for and selected to play
Betsy in the day time soap as the World Turns (1956). She was part of the
show's cast from 1982 to 1984. Meg also played a role in the TV series One of
the Boys (1982), however, this show was soon ended. In 1984, she moved to a
town with a lot of tinsel and eventually landed an opening in the western
television Series Wildside (1985). Meg had a small role in Top Gun (1986),
which led to her casting in Steven Spielberg’s Innerspace (1987) in which she
starred alongside Dennis Quaid. For the remake of D.O.A., she starred in a
second time with Quaid. (1988) The two were wed on Saint Valentine's Day 1991.
In 1989, Meg appeared in When Harry Met Sally... (1989) and the scene at the
restaurant became famous. Meg was nominated for the Golden Globe and the BAFTA.
In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and
this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. Also, she was part
of the critically acclaimed Sleepless in Seattle (1993), where she received
nominations for the Golden Globe. Meg determined to take on a different role
than her peers in 1994 by playing the part of Meg as a mother/wife who has a
drinking problem in When a Man Loves a Woman (1994). Meg returned to being
"cute" following that film with I.Q. (1994) as well as French Kiss
(1996). The year 1994 was the year that Meg was awarded the Harvard Hasty
Pudding Award for being "Woman of the Year" and was also voted as
being one of "The 50 most beautiful people in the world in 1994" by
People Magazine.
